VLVνT11 Workshop

The series of 'Very Large Volume Neutrino Telescope' Workshops, VLVnT, will be continued in Erlangen, 12-14 October 2011 (VLVnT11). The workshop theme is "The future of neutrino astronomy" and it will focus on progress of neutrino astronomy, in particular the physics, technological and instrumental aspects of large-scale detectors in water or ice. There will be presentations of industrial partners.

General information

Scope of the workshop

The workshop will focus on progress of neutrino astronomy, in particular the physics, technological and instrumental aspects of large-scale detectors in water or ice. There will be plenary and parallel sessions and a neutrino telescope user workshop. Covered topics are the current status, the research and development and the future of neutrino telescopes.
In addition industrial partners will present themselves and their products.

Location

The workshop takes place in the lecture building of the Physics Department of the University of Erlangen (FAU). The physics campus is located at the edge of Erlangen, ~3km from the centre, where the hotels for the workshop are located. The available infrastructure and logistics includes:

  • several lecture halls and some small meeting rooms (available for private conversations and group meetings)
  • a continuously occupied conference bureau offering services for the workshop attendants
  • an exhibition of industrial partners
  • an area offering refreshments (coffee, tea and soft drinks) during all day
  • network access via WiFi in the lecture hall and a room with computer terminals

Workshop Fee

The workshop fee is 250 € for early registrants (payment before September, 15th 2011) and 300 € for registration after September, 15th 2011. Remote payments are currently only possible by bank transfer (see registration for details). Payments at the workshop registration are possible by cash and possibly by credit card (details will be given on this web page).

The fee covers:

  • access to the workshop and all services listed above
  • lunch (snacks) and refreshments during the three days of the workshop and the conference banquet (see below)
  • the workshop proceedings (to be published in a special issue of NIM A)

The fee for accompanying person is 50 €, covering the conference banquet.

Abstracts and Proceedings

Abstracts (maximum length 1500 characters) for presentations can be submitted until September 15th, 2011; submitted abstracts can be modified until September 30th. The number of available timeslots is limited and presentations will be accepted following the quality of the abstracts (significance and originality of the contribution). The intended duration of presentations in the parallel sessions is about 20 minutes, including discussion.

The proceedings of the workshop will be published in a special issue of NIM A with articles of 6 pages for plenary talks and 4 pages for presentations in the parallel sessions. The deadline for article submission is December, 15th 2011. More information will be published once the submission deadline draws near.

Social Events

There will be a banquet on Thursday, Oct. 13th starting from 8 pm in the historic Redoutensaal (Theaterplatz 1, 91054 Erlangen) within walking distance of all hotels. The Redoutensaal is a baroque festival room from the year 1750 located in the heart of the historic centre of Erlangen, in direct proximity to the theatre (Markgrafentheater) and to the palace garden (Schlossgarten). The hall was renovated in the year 2005 and represents a atmospheric place for balls, classical concerts, cabaret, receipts and social meetings of all kinds.
